2009 National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York State Media Award presented at the Fall Conference in Albany, NY. The following excerpt is from the Conference Program:
NAMI-NYS is proud to present the 2009 Media Award to author Ginnah Howard, for Night Navigation. Night Navigation is a fugue in two alternating voices—a 37 year-old man and his mother—that explores a landscape of suicide, complicated by the co-occurence of mental illness and substance abuse. It portrays a struggle familiar to many NAMI members—providing support without enabling or infantilizing a loved one.
